Labour’s proposed ‘stroll’ on National Insurance

Apologies to anyone not interested in the UK elections but I’m about to get all political on yo’ ass…

The Tories and some papers keep going on about these well known business leaders who have come out against Labour’s proposed ‘hike’ in National Insurance. Surely this isn’t surprising, it would cost them a fortune! I’m sure as big earners they’d also welcome a Tory government that will reduce inheritance tax and pledge not to increase the taxes on their gargantuan salaries. After all, we wouldn’t want them to find themselves unable to afford their memberships at the Country Club just so Gordie can afford to keep a hospital open.

If Labour had bigger balls they’d call the businesses out on this one. They should point out that the Tories are, once again, basing their political arguments on the benefits of the rich and powerful few rather than on how it would benefit the many.

Incidentally, I’m not sure I’d call a 1% rise a ‘hike’. It’s not even a long walk on a Sunday afternoon. It’s more a stroll to the 24 hour garage for a bag of Maltesars. As someone who pays National Insurance I don’t mind paying an extra one percent if it it’ll help. I probably wouldn’t even notice the difference. Hell, why not make it 1.5%.

Political rant over.
